On Wednesday all pupils at Harlescott took part in Stepping Out – road safety training. Mr Hughes from Shropshire Council came into class to teach us about staying safe and for the first time all children took part in the practical session.
Mr Hughes was so impressed with the behaviour of our children that he emailed us to thank us!
“Can I thank you again for piloting ‘Stepping Out’ – practical pedestrian training for the first time at the Centre. I think it went really well thanks to wonderful support from your team and great efforts and behaviour by all the children. It was also a nice opportunity to give older children the responsibility for helping younger pupils with their safety. Working with smaller groups does work well as a rule.
Children were great at walking sensibly and being patient when waiting to cross the road. They put into practice the road safety code of Stop, Look, Listen and Think! and will now be able to help their grown ups and siblings keep safe when crossing the road together. Older children were able to practice crossing the road independently and they did brilliantly.”
