Welcome from Dr Charles Woodford, Chair of Governors
2019 has been a very good year for TMBSS with a well-established Governing Board which has further gained a very experienced new member, Dorothy Elliot, who was previously our Clerk for many years. Under new clerking arrangements, after the Local Authority ceased to provide this service, we now have a member of our own staff taking on this role.
We have experienced great pressure on our Service, primarily from the need to accommodate pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools, a trend that is increasing across the country. Our Head of Service, Greg Portman continues to work closely with officers of the Local Authority on helping to meet the needs, and to advise on the most effective models of service. There is no doubt that there remains a high level of demand for the service that we provide.
Following on from our successful Ofsted inspection in February 2018, (Report can be accessed via this website) in which we were graded Good in all categories, we are using its recommendations and the new Ofsted Inspection framework to continually improve the Service.
The new Ofsted Inspection Framework presents some significant changes for us to work towards, but also fits well with our own objectives of providing as broad a curriculum as possible, and a wide range of examination subjects which can be taken. This is achieved through Enrichment activities, which build on the core curriculum, add life experiences, both within and out of school, and prepare our students for their future lives.
The Governing Board is very grateful to Greg and all our staff for all they do for the most challenging and needy children in Shropshire.
